BAKERSFIELD, CA – Linny White will resume his chase for the Spears Srl Southwest Tour Series Championship when the series rolls into Kern County Raceway for the Sixth Annual Winter Showdown on March 21st. White finished fifth, in the season-opening “Sunrise Ford All-Star Showdown” at Irwindale Speedway, after leading 17 laps during the event. A brush with the wall, in the second half of the event, slowed his progress, but he recovered for his 10th career top-five finish in only 18 starts.
White will now head to Bakersfield, to a track at which he swept both 2019 championship events for the “SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series presented by Lucas Oil“. He won the “Bulwark FR 100 presented by Spears Manufacturing 50th Anniversary”, by making a last-lap pass on Bob Lyon to steal the win from Jacob Gomes in the split 50/50 event. At the October Classic, he made a pass on 2019 series champion Cole Moore with 10 laps to go, to take the victory. It was a sweet win at a track that White is still unsure of.
“Me and this place have such a love/hate relationship”, White stated after his October Classic win. “We swept the year here, so they are asking me how I feel about this place here now, and I just don’t know. I’m 41-years-old now and I like to go 100 mph now. You are going 140 to 145 (mph) here, and it’s a little out of my comfort zone. It doesn’t feel that bad, but when you see cars in the wall and cars spun out, you can really see the speed.”
White will now look to continue his momentum at the SRL Winter Showdown on March 21st in his Rowdy Manufacturing Super Late Model. The Earl Robbins owned team is sponsored by Pinnacle Peak Steakhouse San Dimas, HPSI ( Hydraulic Power Systems, Inc. ) and Swift Springs.

The 2020 Winter Showdown, from Kern County Raceway, is entering its sixth season of competition. It is supported by Spears Manufacturing, Motor City Buick GMC, Traffic Management, Inc. and Visit Bakersfield. The previous winners of the event include Bubba Pollard Fan Page (2015, 2016), Derek Thorn(2017), Kyle Busch (2018) and Ty Majeski (2019). The previous Feature Events have included several formats, with distances of 250 laps (2015 – 2017), 300 laps (2018 – 2019) and this year’s 200-lap version.
In 2020, the event will feature a halfway break, where half of the purse money will be awarded based on its’ result. The completion of 200 laps will wholly determine the final championship event finish, with the second half of the purse payout. Drivers eligible for the SPEARS Frequent Flyer Program will receive a minimum of $1,400 to start the feature. If required, eligible drivers who do not transfer from the Last Chance Qualifier will receive $1,000.
The SPEARS Southwest Tour Series Super Late Models will be joined by the Spears Modified Series, as well as the Kern County Raceway Super Stocks. The SPEARS Modifieds will be racing for $4,000-to-win. The event will be Nationally televised on MAVTV, at a date to be named later. It will be Live-Streamed on https://spearsracing.tv/.
