BAKERSFIELD, CA – Chris Davidson is heading back to California on March 21st. Davison made the trip from Friendswood, TX to Irwindale Speedway for the Sunrise Ford All-Star Showdown in January, where he finished 11th. Now he will head to Kern County Raceway for the Sixth Annual Winter Showdown, and a shot at $15,000. This will be Davidson’s fifth trip to the event, where he has a best finish of seventh in 2018. It will be his second championship season start, in the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series.
Davidson is used to traveling with the racing schedule he keeps. The 2016 Southern Super Series Championship Runner-up has top-five finishes in races such as the Snowball Derby and Snowflake 100 at 5 Flags Speedway, the Florida Governors Cup at New Smyrna Speedway, the Baby Rattler at South Alabama Speedway and a win in the Texas Big Shot 250 at Central Texas Speedway. He is coming off a top-10 effort at the 2019 Canadian Short Track Nationals at Jukasa Motor Speedway in a field of 57 Pro Late Models, paying $75,000 in Canadian Dollars.
Davidson is also getting used to attending “Showdown” events out west, as he also made the trip to Evergreen Speedway on three occasions, for the Summer Showdown. He has two top-fives in those events, which include a second and third.
Making the more than 1,500-mile trip from Texas to Bakersfield takes a lot of support from the crew and understanding from the family. The 2006 USRA Super Late Model Champion is appreciative of both for the opportunity, as he stated.

The 2020 Winter Showdown, from Kern County Raceway, is entering its sixth season of competition. It is supported by Spears Manufacturing, Motor City Buick GMC, Traffic Management, Inc. and Visit Bakersfield. The previous winners of the event include Bubba Pollard Fan Page (2015, 2016), Derek Thorn (2017), Kyle Busch (2018) and Ty Majeski (2019). The previous Feature Events have included several formats, with distances of 250 laps (2015 – 2017), 300 laps (2018 – 2019) and this year’s 200-lap version.
In 2020, the event will feature a halfway break, where half of the purse money will be awarded based on its’ result. The completion of 200 laps will wholly determine the final championship event finish, with the second half of the purse payout. Drivers eligible for the SPEARS Frequent Flyer Program will receive a minimum of $1,400 to start the feature. If required, eligible drivers who do not transfer from the Last Chance Qualifier will receive $1,000.
The SPEARS Southwest Tour Series Super Late Models will be joined by the Spears Modified Series, as well as the Kern County Raceway Super Stocks. The SPEARS Modifieds will be racing for $4,000-to-win. The event will be Nationally televised on MAVTV, at a date to be named later. It will be Live-Streamed on spearsracing.tv/
