POST FALLS, ID – When one thinks of racing in the Northwest Region of the country, one of the first names that comes to mind is East Wenatchee’s Garrett Evans. Evans has not only won in the Northwest, but he is a familiar name throughout the country. He has traveled throughout the nation to some of the biggest events in the country. He will now turn his attention to one of the biggest events in his home region, the 2020 Idaho 200 at Stateline Speedway, which will take place on July 31 and August 1st.
Evans is a familiar name at the event, having participated in eight different 200’s. He has two victories, including his last visit in 2017. He also possesses four top-five and five top-10 finishes. The four-time NASCAR Elite Division Northwest Tour Series Champion knows what it take to win big events, and he will bring that knowledge and wisdom to Stateline Speedway next weekend, with a game plan to bring home the $5,000 winner’s prize.
“The key to winning the 200 will be staying out of trouble and getting to the finish”, Evans stated.
The winner of 49 NASCAR Northwest Tour Series Features has seen plenty of big fields in the past. He has starts in the All American 400 at the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway, Winter Showdown at Kern County Raceway, Summer Showdown at Evergreen Speedway, Montana 200 at Montana Raceway Park, Oxford 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway, Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway, National Short Track Championships at Rockford Speedway and the Slinger Nationals at Slinger Speedway, to name a few. But Evans thinks this may be the biggest Idaho 200 in history.
“This could be the biggest field that I can remember, for the Idaho 200”, Evans suggested, after being asked about next weekend’s field.
Evans will have his eye on several drivers in the field, with talent up and down the expected entry list. He is especially looking forward to racing with one particular driver, who he has been assisting over the last few years. That driver has been on a roll in the Pro Late Models, winning six consecutive events at the Wenatchee Valley Super Oval. He is the defending winner of the Idaho 200, and held off Haeden Plybon at the Stateline Speedway season opener, featuring a 25-car field of Pro Late Models. That driver is Glenn Knutson, a driver the three-time Northwest Super Late Model Series Champion knows will be tough to beat.
“From working with him the last couple of years, I know he doesn’t make any mistakes, and is always in the hunt for the win”, Evans explained. “If anybody can beat Glenn, you’re beating one of the best I’ve seen in a long time.”
The same can be said of the Northwest Racing Legend, who will be looking for consecutive Idaho 200 victories himself. If Evans can pull off the win, in a field expected to exceed 40 drivers, he will only add to his legendary career. A career that could possibly see this event as his last Idaho 200.
