SALEM, IN – 2016 ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS Champion Cody Coughlin came away with his second series win of the season in Saturday nights Tom Wood Honda 125 Presented by AERCO Heating & Cooling and CB Fabricating on the fast quarter mile of Anderson Speedway. The win was also Coughlin’s second series win of the season at Anderson Speedway and ties him with Carson Hocevar for the most series wins in 2020.
“It’s great to get this second win of the season,” remarked Coughlin in victory lane. “The crew gave me a really fast car, especially on the long runs. The restarts are always tough here at Anderson, and that was true again tonight. We had to work really hard on each restart to gain positions and fight off the challengers when we had the lead to get the win.”
Kyle Crump took advantage of his pole starting position after Rowdy Manufacturing Fast Qualifier Johnny VanDoorn drew an eight for the events inverted start. Crump would lead until a lap 10 restart when series Rookie Mason Keller made a hard charge on the outside to take the lead.
Keller would lead until Coughlin would make the pass on lap 64. Coughlin would then have to fight off 2019 Anderson series event winner Jack Dossey III who would become the main challenger for Coughlin. The two had to work through several side by side restarts with some contact on the last restart resulting in Coughlin keeping his lead and eventually getting the win.
With his two wins Coughlin is locked into the Chase for the Championship as he looks to claim his second ARCA/CRA Super Series Championship. Coughlin picked up a Hoosier Racing Tire Performance Award, coming from his seventh starting position to get the win.
Dossey III would finish in second, his second straight runner-up finish with the series after also finishing second in the July 13th Redbud 400.
“We had a great car tonight, they knew we were here,” remarked Dossey III. “Hats off to my guys, they put everything possible into it and we spend every dime we can to come out here and race. We had a lot of fans here tonight, we appreciate them coming out and supporting us!”
2017 series Champion Logan Runyon finished in third. He picked up the AR Bodies Cool Move of the Race Award for getting through a lot of tough racing in the top five through out the event.
Three time series Champion John VanDoorn came from the back of the field twice to finish in fourth place in his first race of the 2020 season. Former Redbud 400 winner Dalton Armstrong rounded out the top five.
Lakeland, Florida native Steve Dorer picked up a Hoosier Racing Tire Performance Award and the Progressive Racing Engines Hardcharger Award, coming from his 13th place starting position to finish in sixth. 2019 series Champion Greg Van Alst finished in seventh, 2018 series Champion Josh Brock in eighth, series Rookie Keller in ninth, with Wisconsin’s Dennis Prunty in tenth.
The ARCA/CRA Super Series will kick off it’s 2020 Chase for the Championship at the series next event on Labor Day Weekend with a return visit to Lebanon I-44 Speedway. More information on the ARCA/CRA Super Series can be found at www.cra-racing.com.
