ROSEVILLE, CA – 2015 SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series Champion Jacob Gomes will be heading back to All American Speedway on a roll at the short tracks. Gomes is coming off three consecutive top-10’s, but two were top-fives. One was at Stockton 99 Speedway and the other at All American Speedway. Those efforts have vaulted Gomes into the top-five in the championship standings.
“I think we’re getting better every race, and we’re learning a lot more with the spool and we are just getting better as the season progresses”, Gomes explained.
The SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series will be back at All American Speedway on September 26th for the “JM Environmental Inc. Wild West Shootout Round #2 – Thunderstruck 127 presented by 51 FIFTY”. It will be Round #6 on the schedule and will pay $5,000 to the winner, thanks to the Winner’s Bonus from McGunegill Engine Performance. A Halfway Break is scheduled for the event, and the driver who leads lap 27 will receive an additional $1,000 thanks to JM Environmental. The PFC Brakes Zero Drag Fast Time Award winner will also receive $500, thanks to JM Environmental Inc.
Heading back to All American Speedway, Gomes has attended seven of the series nine trips to the Roseville track. He has four top-five’s and six top-10’s in those appearances. His worst finish was a 12th in 2010. He also has a pole in the ARCA Menards Pro Series West, as well as a second quick time in three appearances. Gomes best SRL series finish was a second and he finished third back in August. It is a track that Gomes has been successful at, but he still isn’t sure about the track itself.
“The track is okay, but it is very rough”, Gomes stated. “But it’s a very nice facility and it is well managed by Bill McAnally and his staff.”
At the last Roseville event, Gomes was involved in an accident on a restart, ripping the left rear quarter panel from the car, while running third. But Gomes’ crew was able to make repairs, after he was towed to the pits. Despite the damage, and a restart in the rear, Gomes was able to come home in that third position, at the end of the evening. Coming back to Roseville, with the challenges his team overcame the last time out, Gomes is hopeful for a victory, as he related.
“I think we had a good car and I’m really hoping we can go and win this next one.”
With the “Bacon Boy’s” resurgence, he would love to earn his second championship, but with a full race points gap to Derek Thorn, Gomes is realistic about his chances. With only a 19-point gap to third, he would love to earn a podium finish.
“I mean I would love to win the thing (championship), but that’s gonna be hard to make up the ground”, Gomes declared. “But to make it up to the top-three would be nice.”
The All American Speedway event will be start #105 for Gomes in the SRL. It is the all-time record for the series. To get all those starts, it takes a lot of support from those around him; family, friends, and sponsors.
I’ve gotta thank my whole team”, Gomes began. I’d like to thank SunnyValley Smoked Meats, Dell’Osso Family Farms, David’s Racing Products as well as my mom and dad, Bill Andretta, Treva Holmes Andretta and Dennis and Julie B. Arbini.
