Veteran Brian Campbell Aiming for Victory in First Race with CARS Tour
Former ASA Late Model Challenge Series champion Brian Campbell has 23 victories in the ARCA/CRA Super Series and over 100 wins throughout his illustrious Late Model career. Now, he is ready to get back in the saddle again to chase down his 24th ARCA/CRA Super Series victory and his first in the Solid Rock Carriers CARS Tour.
“We have fun when we go up and win races,” Campbell said. “We win 7-10 races a year, but we only race 13-14 times a year, so we have a 40-50% winning percentage every year. Anything other than winning is not really advantageous for us. I can’t wait for all those CARS Tour guys to come up. I get to race with some of those guys every now and then when we go to special shows like the (Snowball) Derby or Nashville so to have the whole series there with CRA, it’s going to be a good, fun event.”
Campbell does have some experience at Jennerstown Speedway and has raced at the complex throughout his career. Because of that experience, he feels like Jennerstown Speedway regulars will be tougher to beat than other Super Late Model titans such as Bubba Pollard and Stephen Nasse.
“I raced ASA Late Models there years ago and used to watch races with my dad there when I was younger. I have one race there, finished second, but I’ve been there a lot. (Nasse and Pollard) are good competition. They come up and race with us and we beat them all the time. I worry about the guys who have raced around Jennerstown more than I worry about those guys.”
Pollard Hoping to Continue Winning Ways
After getting off to a slow start early in the season, Bubba Pollard will head into Jennerstown fresh off a win at Hickory Motor Speedway in the Solid Rock Carriers CARS Tour and a victory at Five Flags Speedway in the Southern Super Series on Saturday. Pollard, who is one of the most prolific drivers in Super Late Model racing, is hoping to ride that momentum into victory lane in his first Jennerstown start.
“I’m excited about going to Jennerstown,” Pollard said. “I always like going to new places and racing for the first time. We’ve really had a lot of success when we went to new tracks for the first time. I feel like we have a lot of momentum building into Jennerstown for Saturday so I’m really excited to get going. It’s a place I’ve grown up watching old ASA and Pro Cup races at and somewhere I’ve always wanted to race.”
Pollard feels like his win at Hickory Motor Speedway was a turning point for his season, and hopes to hit his stride as big Super Late Model races are right around the corner across the country.
“I feel like we’ve kind of gotten off to a slow start. Our cars, we struggled early on I feel like,” Pollard said. “We weren’t where we needed to be. When we raced at Hickory, we found a few things that we’ve carried over into Pensacola and it worked. Hopefully, it transitions into the same thing at Jennerstown. It’s been a slow start really, but hopefully we can stride and hit our high as all the big races come up.”
CARS Tour Implements Guidelines to Prevent Spread of COVID-19
Until further notice, the CARS Tour will continue to implement policies to prevent transmission of COVID-19. The policies were introduced at Ace Speedway on June 6 and were also used at Hickory Motor Speedway on June 13. These policies include (but are not limited to) the following:
-
On Friday, all personnel will have their temperature screened before entering the race track.
-
Driver Intros will not be held amongst the crowd, per usual; instead, drivers will be introduced from their cars on the grid.
-
Trailers will be spread out across the infield to maintain proper social distancing.
-
Spotters will be required to wear masks during the race.
-
Masks will be strongly recommended for those who are in the infield and required for all Victory Lane celebrations.
