SPOKANE, WA – Alan Cress wheels his No. 91 Kustom Fab Chevrolet into this weekend’s Northwest Super Late Model Series season opener aiming for his third consecutive victory at South Sound Speedway. In his way will be some of the top super late model talent in the region out to grab the Wofford 100 checkered flag at the .375-mile oval.

In 2019 Cress used a consistent rate of finishes to chase eventual series champion, Trevor Cristiani, from track to track. Last season’s South Sound 125 proved to be one of the most exciting events of the year and Cress knows all eyes will be on him and his team this weekend. Many of those eyes will be crew members and fellow drivers as the Wofford 100 will be run without fans in the grandstands.

“It’s definitely going to be different without the fans,” Cress said. “It will look like a Friday practice (where fans usually aren’t in attendance) but once we get in the car (on Saturday) it will be business as usual. Our focus and intensity will kick in for sure.”

That focus has been successful for the Stayton, Oregon driver as Cress is trying for the trifecta victory at South Sound.

“I’ve won the last two series races at the track and I really enjoy that it’s close to my house. Some tracks you just click with and South Sound is that place for me. It fits my driving style, it’s a beautiful place and extremely well run.”

To get to victory number three, Cress sees the biggest challenge to the weekend coming from those out to get the NWSLMS season underway.

“The biggest challenge we’ll face this weekend will be the other competitors in this race. From the pre-entry list it looks to be a very strong field.”

With the series working towards holding as many events as possible in 2020 en route to a championship presentation, Cress spent the off-season focused on ways to improve one more position in the final standings. That work will be on display this weekend, he noted.

“We’ve mostly worked on organization of our equipment and preparation to be more efficient at the racetrack. We’re coming up with plans before hand and discussing it with the crew so that (when the team arrives to the track) we’re all on the same page.”
