WISCONSIN DELLS, WI – Paul Shafer Jr. has one track Championship to his credit, the 2013 Illiana Motor Speedway titlist is the current Grundy County point leader as he looks to secure the Championship at the Morris, IL track. In between Friday and Sunday Grundy races, Shafer will make the voyage to Dells Raceway Park on Saturday night for the $10,000 to win ARCA Midwest Tour Joe Shear Classic.

Meanwhile, Justin Mondeik is fresh off his first career track Championship, winning the title at State Park Speedway last Thursday night. Friday night he chases Track Championship number two for 2020, this time at Golden Sands Speedway. While the duo continues to win in their weekly racing efforts, each has found success on the ARCA Midwest Tour as well, Shafer having won the Wayne Carter Classic at Grundy and Mondeik the Detjens Memorial at State Park.

For Shafer, the Grundy win two weeks ago was his second career Tour win, he was also victorious at Jefferson Speedway in 2018. Twice a runner-up in Tour points, Shafer currently finds himself 4 markers behind Mondeik. For Mondeik, the State Park Detjens win was his first career Tour victory. That win came when he did not expect to run the full Tour schedule, now with a cancellation last week, it appears Mondeik will be able to complete the season with just Oktoberfest remaining.

Those two are not the only two young drivers in Saturday night’s field with recent success. Bobby Kendall, a two-time Red, White and Blue State Champion at Wisconsin International Raceway closed the deal last night winning the Thursday Night Fox River Racing Club Championship last night. His father Jeff is a three-time DRP Track Champion and Bobby is a consistent top runner there, in search of a breakthrough Tour win. Luke Fenhaus recorded his first Slinger Super Speedway Super Late Model victory two weeks ago during the Carl Wegner Memorial event. Four days prior to that the former Kulwicki Development Driver Program participant won his third straight Lodi Memorial at State Park Speedway.

Two drivers that will be making their first career starts at Dells Raceway Park are Canada’s Cayden Lapcevich and Iowa’s Sammy Smith. Lapcevich became an instant favorite of Midwest Tour fans last month, as the 2016 NASCAR Canadian Champ and Glass City 200 winner chased Ty Majeski across the line in the Gandrud Auto Parts 250 at Wisconsin International Raceway. Majeski, who won in Tour action last Labor Day at Dells is unable to attend on Saturday, but Sammy Smith is jumping behind the wheel of the #91. Smith, on the strength of three wins won the World Series of Asphalt Pro Late Model title in 2019 during Florida Speedweeks. He charged from a last chance transfer position to finish eleventh in his one and only Midwest Tour start, last month at WIR. Just last week he returned to New Smyrna where he finished seventh. 2020 has seen the 15 year old criss cross the Nation racing Late Models from Las Vegas to the East Coast.

Joining the Midwest Tour will be the Midwest Trucks and 602 Late Models. Spectator events will open at 3pm for the Holiday weekend special event, with qualifying at 4:30 and racing at 6pm Saturday night September 5.
